Pineapple Express Review

Every couple weeks or so a shitty “comedy” comes out that everyone says looks amazing, and you feel like you’re the only person who doesn’t think so, and so your friends shun you and hit you with sticks for it.
This is not that film.
I do admit, I was really skeptical about Pineapple Express when I first saw the trailers for it. I figured it would be a wannabe Cheech and Chong, or Jay and Silent Bob, but it really wasn’t (to an extent). Of course it still has the tall, long haired, possibly autistic character, and his more intelligent and large sidekick. However in Pineapple Express, they have motives other than just getting high until flashing colours are the only thing that will hold their attention. Saul, played by James Franco (also known as Harry Osbourne in the Spider Man trilogy) is a drug dealer with a twist. He does it to help his grandma (or his “babby”) out of her retirement home. Dale Denton, played by Seth Rogen (You’ll know him from hilarious stuff. Seriously, if you don’t know who he is, you’d have to be living under an anti-funny-and-awesome-stuff rock for the past 4 years or so) does some kind of suit wearing stuff that I never really figured out (he hands out subpoenas, I never knew what that job was) and smokes to calm himself and apparently, due to anorexia. From the moment you see them on screen together, until the last shot, they have great buyer-dealer chemistry, and eventually great “best friends” chemistry. There’s a surprisingly well done fight scene about half an hour into the movie, and while I was watching it I realized that it’s not one of the best comedies of this year, but one of the best action movies too. Every fight scene is awesomely choreographed and well played out by everyone involved. Of course, there were other people in this movie that gave awesome performances, I just wish someone knew their actual names, other than the legendary Gary Cole, who kicked alot of ass.
As for its flaws…………………………I can’t think of any. This movie is almost perfect, and every line was great, but they still could have been better. The direction was great, but kind of iffy during the fight scenes, they looked a little hectic. But other than those small problems, this is a great buddy/stoner/action/comedy flick.
